Well, the carnival is over and we are on our way home. It will be good to see all our friends and family and enjoy some time with them but we have had an awesome time here in NZ. We are currently in Auckland International Airport Qantas Club Lounge enjoying their hospitality before heading back [...]

Today was our last day of activities in Queenstown before returning to the comforts of our home town (we’ve been watching the weather reports – 21-23 degrees at home sounds divine). As our Snowmobiling and Shotover Jet experiences were cancelled yesterday, they were carried over to today (Saturday). We rang the Shotover team this morning [...]

Wow! We woke up today and rang in to confirm our Shotover Jet and then heli-snowmobiling adventures to find out they were both cancelled today due to an overload of snow. Bummer…
So we walked outside to find a sea of white in Queenstown. Apparently its very unusual for it to actually snow down this low, [...]

Today we woke up and decided (or more accurately our bodies did) that we needed a rest day from skiing. Peta’s calves and adductors (inner thighs for the non anatomy boffins) and my previously tortured feet (evil foot binding ski boots) decided that we should continue our skiing after a days rest. As we are [...]

On Wed night we went to the Skyline Gondola Restaurant and Kiwi Haka show. What a wonderful experience. You start off in a cable gondola that takes you on a 5 minute journey up the side of Queenstown Mountain (that’s almost vertical) where you have a spectacular view of Queenstown and Lake Wakatipu. You can [...]

Today (Wed) was awesome as it snowed buckets. It was about -8C for a fair amount of the time and even penguins were saying “Sheez mate, I am bloody freezing!”. Of course there were more hardcore boarders and skiiers today than ever. I am sure there were alot of people that called in “sick” that [...]

Day 2 of the slopes saw us in our 3rd lesson starting on the “noob” slopes again and then very quickly graduating to the “Big Easy” which is where the yard sales began. The Big Easy was supposedly the the next step from beginners classes – it’s a much longer, windy and steeper slope. Brian [...]

Well, we finally made to the skiing part of our skiing holiday. We started at Coronet Peak after about 80% of New Zealand’s population gave us their opinion of which resort was better for us “beginners”. We can visit both The Remarkables and Coronet Peak areas with our ski tickets. The best argument we received [...]

We are now in the Auckland Qantas domestic airport which without the Qantas Club lounge would be about the size of Wagga Wagga terminal – but it’s in a proper concrete building rather than a shed, good old Wagga Wagga. Auckland this morning is a little chilly (bit of wind chill) but nothing like we’re [...]

What an adenture today. Over 5 hours round trip of driving out to Waitomo to see the Glow worms! The drive itself was amazing – the country side is a cross between Maleny’s rolling hills, Beerwah’s flat areas with volcanic formations with the road up Mount Mee thrown in for good measure, and it’s all [...]
